BartelsRieger history - Your expert for personal protective equipment since 1861

2000–Today

Due to the high demand, a separate service department for the maintenance and repair of serviceable products was established in 2000. Six years later, BartelsRieger received the sponsorship award of the then BBG and StBG in the area of "Work, Safety & Health" for the mobile breathing apparatus container ASC 3500. The company received another sponsorship award in 2008, this time for the product TAV portable breathing air supply, which is used in toxic atmospheres with very little space. In 2016, the BARILINE family was expanded: BARILINE HH and BARILINE PW were added. In 2017, a new patent was registered for the pneumatic evacuation alarm. This enables the supervising person to trigger an acoustic alarm signal on the respirator wearer in order to call him back from the danger zone without any further alarm chain.

The product portfolio was expanded with first aid products. The BARIKOS eye wash bottle was developed in 1956 and was one of the first solutions to be launched on the market.

New products were also constantly developed in the field of respiratory protection technology, such as the paint splash bonnet, which was developed together with a major German car manufacturer, or the ABEK filter. In 1999, the first mobile breathing air supply was introduced to the market.

1900–1950

In 1912, the company was bought by Carl Bartels and Fritz Rieger (today's namesakes). In 1917, the headquarters moved to Cologne. In the 1920s, the business activities were expanded to include the production of masks, breathing protection filters and hose devices.

In order to produce the respiratory protection filters, a chemical laboratory and a coal impregnation plant were set up in addition to production.

1861

The company was founded in 1861 in Wuppertal-Barmen as a rubber goods factory.

Even then, so-called respirators (respiratory masks) were manufactured.
