DEZEGA closed-circuit breathing apparatus, chemical oxygen self-rescuers and positive-pressure compressed oxygen breathing apparatus for work
Escape and rescue solutions for mining, tunnelling and industry
DEZEGA chemical oxygen self-rescuers and positive-pressure compressed oxygen breathing apparatus for work provide protection against smoke, toxic gases and oxygen deficiency. The devices operate independently of the ambient atmosphere and are suitable for personal escape and professional operations by mine rescue, industrial rescue and emergency rescue personnel.
BartelsRieger distributes DEZEGA respiratory protective devices. We provide technical support for product selection, training and testing.
The right solution for escape or rescue
Selection should be based on the escape route, physical workload, possible waiting times and an adequate safety margin.
What is a chemical oxygen self-rescuer?
A chemical oxygen self-rescuer is a respiratory protective device that operates independently of the ambient atmosphere and is intended for escape from hazardous areas. Exhaled air is regenerated in a closed circuit. Potassium superoxide, KO₂ for short, absorbs carbon dioxide and moisture, releasing oxygen in the process.
Unlike a filter self-rescuer, a chemical oxygen self-rescuer does not rely on a sufficient oxygen concentration in the ambient air. A chemical oxygen self-rescuer can therefore also be used in oxygen-deficient conditions within its approved operating limits.
What is a positive-pressure compressed oxygen breathing apparatus?
A positive-pressure compressed oxygen breathing apparatus is a respiratory protective device that operates independently of the ambient atmosphere and is intended for work and rescue in hazardous areas. Exhaled air is regenerated in a closed circuit. Carbon dioxide is absorbed in a soda lime cartridge, and oxygen is metered into the circuit from a compressed oxygen cylinder.
The pressure in the breathing circuit is slightly higher than ambient pressure. This increases safety – in the event of leakage, air can only escape outwards, and contaminated air cannot enter the circuit.
Our DEZEGA respirators
DEZEGA EmSCAPE – oxygen self-rescuer with protective hood
The EmSCAPE is a chemical oxygen self-rescuer with a flame-retardant protective hood and a large visor. It protects the head, face and airways and was developed for rapid evacuation from smoke-filled, contaminated or oxygen-deficient areas.
Typical applications include industrial installations, oil and gas facilities, tunnels, high-rise buildings, public buildings and maritime applications.
DEZEGA CARBO 30 – chemical oxygen self-rescuer
The CARBO 30 provides a nominal escape duration of 30 minutes at a respiratory volume of 35 litres per minute. At a low workload or at rest (while awaiting rescue), the available time can increase to up to 90 minutes.
The compact device is particularly suitable for mines, tunnels and industrial installations with short to medium-length escape routes. It is used with a mouthpiece, nose clip and protective goggles.
DEZEGA CARBO 30T – training self-rescuer
The reusable CARBO 30T enables realistic training in the key procedures: opening, donning, using the mouthpiece and nose clip, as well as experiencing breathing resistance and moving while wearing the device.
The CARBO 30T is intended exclusively for training purposes and is not a respiratory protective device for emergency use.
DEZEGA CARBO 60 - chemical oxygen self-rescuer – a greater time reserve for escape
The CARBO 60 provides a nominal escape duration of 60 minutes at a respiratory volume of 35 litres per minute. At a low workload or at rest (while awaiting rescue), the available time can increase to up to 180 minutes.
The compact device is suitable for longer escape routes in mines, tunnel systems, underground work areas and extensive industrial facilities. It is used with a mouthpiece, nose clip and protective goggles.
DEZEGA CARBO 60T - training self-rescuer – training for longer escape Scenarios
The reusable CARBO 60T enables realistic training in the key procedures: opening, donning, using the mouthpiece and nose clip, as well as experiencing breathing resistance and moving while wearing the device.
The CARBO 60T is intended exclusively for training purposes and is not a respiratory protective device for emergency use.
DEZEGA P-70 – positive-pressure compressed oxygen breathing apparatus for professional rescue operations
The P-70 is a reusable positive-pressure compressed oxygen closed-circuit breathing apparatus. It supplies professional rescue personnel for up to four hours, independently of the ambient atmosphere.
The device was developed for mine, industrial and tunnel rescue, high-rise operations and industrial emergencies. Electronic monitoring, remaining time calculation, team monitoring and an ergonomic carrying system support operations.
Typical applications
DEZEGA oxygen self-rescuers and closed-circuit breathing apparatus are used in applications including:
- Underground coal, ore and salt mines
- Tunnel construction and operation
- Chemical and petrochemical industries
- Steelworks and wastewater treatment plants
- Silos, tanks and confined spaces
- Mine rescue and industrial rescue
- High-rise buildings and industrial buildings
- Emergency and disaster response operations
Why purchase DEZEGA through BartelsRieger?

- Support when replacing existing equipment systems
Frequently asked questions about DEZEGA self-rescuers
What is the difference between CARBO 30 and CARBO 60?
CARBO 30 provides a nominal escape duration of 30 minutes; CARBO 60 provides 60 minutes. The choice of device depends on the escape route, workload, possible waiting times and the required safety margin.
Can an oxygen self-rescuer be used in oxygen-deficient conditions?
Yes. Chemical oxygen self-rescuers operate independently of the ambient air and are also intended for use in oxygen-deficient atmospheres within the scope of their approval.
Can DEZEGA self-rescuers be reused?
CARBO self-rescuers intended for emergency use cannot be reused once activated. The reusable CARBO 30T and CARBO 60T training devices are available for practical exercises.
What distinguishes a self-rescuer from the P-70?
A self-rescuer is intended for escape/evacuation from a hazardous area. The P-70 is intended for work and rescue operations lasting several hours and carried out by professional rescue personnel.
